If you’re dreaming of a wedding venue that combines beautiful architecture, lush gardens, and waterfront views, The Ringling in Sarasota, Florida, is a venue worth exploring. The historic buildings, art-filled surroundings, and views of Sarasota Bay, provides a distinctive backdrop for couples who want their wedding to feel elegant, timeless, and connected to the beauty of Florida. If you’re considering The Ringling Museum Weddings, this venue guide will walk you through the property’s history, ceremony and reception spaces, estimated costs, and some important details to consider as you plan your dream wedding day.

A Brief History of The Ringling Museum
The Ringling is the legacy of John and Mable Ringling. Their interests in art, architecture, and culture helped shape Sarasota’s history. John Ringling was one of the famous Ringling brothers associated with the Ringling Bros. circus. He and Mable purchased property in Sarasota in 1911 and gradually developed their winter estate along Sarasota Bay.
Their collection of European art became the foundation for the John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art, which opened in the early 1930s. Their residence, Ca’ d’Zan, was completed in 1926 and reflects the couple’s appreciation for grand architecture and European design. Following John’s death in 1936, the estate was left to the people of Florida. Today, The Ringling is the State Art Museum of Florida and a cultural destination encompassing art, history, architecture, and gardens.

The Ringling’s appeal lies in the contrast between its different settings. Historic architecture sits alongside tropical landscaping, formal gardens, and the open water of Sarasota Bay allowing for gorgeous waterfront views that you’d expect from a Florida venue. The result is a venue that feels both grand and natural. Each area has its own character, creating so many possibilities for wedding portraits and a celebration that feels personal to you. The versatile backdrops give couples a wedding gallery with variety without needing to travel.

Wedding Ceremony and Reception Locations at The Ringling
One of the most important things to understand when considering The Ringling as your wedding venue is that the estate includes several distinct spaces, but not every location is automatically included in every wedding package.
The venue’s primary evening wedding options center on the Museum of Art Courtyard and Ca’ d’Zan’s Terrace and Bolger Campiello. There are also separate options for smaller garden ceremonies. Your guest count, preferred atmosphere, and reception plans will help determine which option is best for you.

The Museum of Art Courtyard Weddings
The Museum of Art Courtyard offers a different aesthetic, with its formal layout and romantic, timeless setting. It feels like an Italian piazza tucked into the Florida landscape. If you love classical architecture, sculpture, and the feeling of a European courtyard, this is a beautiful option to explore. The Museum of Art Courtyard features manicured grounds and replicas of ancient Greek, Roman, and Baroque statuary. It offers an elegant setting for a ceremony and can also accommodate cocktail hour and a reception for up to 400 guests. It also provides a variety of backdrops for wedding portraits.
For couples planning a larger wedding, the courtyard is worth considering because it can bring the ceremony and reception together in one location. The venue also identifies covered loggias as a weather-related option for the courtyard package. However, it is worth noting that this is strictly an outdoor venue, and indoor space is not available.

Ca’ d’Zan Terrace and Bolger Campiello
If you envision a beautiful waterfront wedding that still includes stunning architecture, Ca’ d’Zan is the perfect option. Ca’ d’Zan is one of the most recognizable parts of The Ringling estate. The Ca’ d’Zan, the former Ringling residence, is particularly memorable with its Venetian Gothic design, pink exterior, decorative details, and waterfront location with breathtaking views of Sarasota Bay. It is also a striking backdrop for portraits. The Ca’ d’Zan Terrace and Bolger Campiello can accommodate up to 200 guests.
The nearby Bolger Campiello is used for cocktail hour and the reception. However, a tent required for this area, which as an additional cost. Therefore, this is an important part of the budget to consider. The final rental cost will depend on the package and tent selection.

The Best of The Ringling Package
If you’re having a difficult time choosing between the Museum of Art Courtyard and Ca’ d’Zan, The Ringling also offers a package that combines spaces from each location. The Best of The Ringling package includes the Ca’ d’Zan Terrace, Bolger Campiello, and Museum of Art Courtyard. It gives couples the opportunity to incorporate more than one of the estate’s signature settings into their celebration.
This package accommodates up to 250 guests with Ca’ d’Zan Terrace as the wedding ceremony location, and cocktail hour taking place at either Bolger Campiello or the Museum of Art Courtyard. The reception will be held in the Museum of Art Courtyard. Since the Bolger Campiello requires a tent, remember to factor that additional expense into your planning.

Garden Weddings at The Ringling Museum
Not every couple needs a large wedding with a full reception. If you’re planning something more intimate, The Ringling also offers six separate garden ceremony options at locations throughout the Bayfront Gardens, which include the East Lawn of Ca’d’Zan, Under the Banyan Trees, Millennium Tree Trail, Mable Ringling’s Rose Garden, Dwarf Garden, and Museum of Art Searing Loggia. Mable Ringling’s interest in gardening helped establish the estate’s stunning gardens. Depending on your selected location and the spaces available for your event, the gardens can provide a lovely setting for an intimate ceremony or portraits surrounded by greenery.
Classic Garden Ceremony and Premium Garden Ceremony
There are two Garden wedding ceremony packages to chose from, which are designed for smaller gatherings and are distinct from the larger evening wedding packages. First there is the Classic Garden Ceremony for up to 25 guests, and then their Premium Garden Ceremony, for up to 40 guests.
There are options for daytime garden ceremonies throughout the year as well as evening garden ceremonies during summer. Garden ceremonies are usually held Tuesday – Thursday, depending on availability.
For couples who value an intimate atmosphere or are considering an elopement, a garden ceremony at The Ringling can be a lovely way to celebrate with your closest family and friends.
