There’s always something romantic about a beach at sunset, especially when you’re planning engagement portraits. But, when your couple was engaged on a Mexican beach, those dramatic sunsets hold even more meaning. Mackenzie and Christian had a beautiful St. Pete FL engagement session outside the Don Cesar Hotel. It was romantic, lots of fun, and I’m so excited to be sharing it with you today!

Their Love Story

Mackenzie and Christian met at a wedding, where they walked down the aisle together as part of the bridal party. They hit it off (even though Mackenzie had a date!) and stayed in touch after the day was over. A few weeks after the wedding, Mackenzie mentioned to Christian that she wasn’t dating that guy anymore. So, he invited her to a pool party to hang out! It was obvious there had been a spark from the beginning, but once they went to that party together, they were inseparable.

A Proposal in Mexico

On a cruise to Mexico around their birthdays in January (they share the same day, 2 years apart!!), Christian proposed. They had gone snorkeling and walked around the private beach. Another couple on the boat helped him scope out a good spot, where there was an archway and he could see the ship behind. That couple suggested they take a photo there and next thing, Christian was on his knees asking Mackenzie to marry him! How romantic is that?!

Beach Engagement Session near the Don Cesar Hotel

When we began to think about where we would do their portraits, Mackenzie and Christian shared how they had packed everything up and left Iowa together – no jobs, no place to stay, just them and their dog. As we thought through some of the spots around Tampa, we finally settled on St. Pete beach, near the Don Cesar Hotel. We spent time outside the hotel because the architecture is simply stunning – and it made for a gorgeous backdrop. Afterwards, we lucked out with a beautiful sunset for Mackenzie and Christian as we walked the beach and they popped some champagne. Everything felt so romantic!

Congratulations again, Mackenzie and Christian! I am so happy for you both!!
