Romantic Sunrise Sailboat Engagement Session in Tampa, FL | Grace & Tyler
Grace and Tyler are the kind of couple that radiate joy. They are relaxed, easygoing, and genuinely best friends. Their sunrise sailboat engagement session in Tampa was incredibly memorable and filled with so many special moments, including a few extra stops after we finished sailing. From a romantic sunrise sailboat ride, to exploring their favorite beach, and a place they frequent every week, every part of this session was intentionally chosen to reflect their story. It was deeply personal, full of laughter, and perfectly captured who they are as a couple.

Their Story
One of my favorite things about Grace and Tyler is that their relationship began with friendship. In fact, they were friends for more than a year before they ever started dating. The two first met through Xavier University’s first-year orientation program in Cincinnati. They became good friends and remained connected throughout the pandemic. Eventually their friendship turned into something more.
Today, they describe their relationship with three simple words: best friends, relaxed, and easygoing. After spending the morning with them, I completely agree that those words couldn’t be more fitting.

Proposal at Pass-a-Grille Beach
Tyler proposed in August of 2025, the day after celebrating their five-year anniversary. The two spent the day at one of their favorite places, Pass-a-Grille Beach, relaxing in the sun before getting ready for anniversary dinner at Grace Restaurant later that evening. While getting ready, Tyler mentioned that he had “accidentally” left his book on the beach.
As they headed back to look for it, Grace’s sister was secretly hiding in the dunes with her camera, ready to capture the moment Tyler got down on one knee. As he proposed, the excitement of the moment was so overwhelming that they joke they don’t even remember whether Grace actually said yes. Afterward, they drove to Grace’s parents’ condo, where both families were waiting to celebrate together.

Designing a Tailored Engagement Session
One thing I love most about photographing engagement sessions is creating an experience that feels authentic to each couple. Grace and Tyler mentioned early on they would like sailboat engagement photos. They also mentioned other spots that were meaningful to them, like their favorite beach and proposal spot, Pass-a-Grille Beach, as well as The Wharf, which is one of their favorite restaurants and where they spend a lot of time.
Knowing all of this information, I designed a session around the places and activities that mean the most to them. I love when couples have locations that are meaningful to them, because years from now, these images will remind them of the life they shared together during this season, allowing them to relive treasured memories.

Romantic Sunrise Sailboat Engagement Session in Tampa
We began their sunrise sailboat engagement session in Tampa, FL. The calm morning water, soft, glowing skies, and peaceful atmosphere created the most romantic backdrop for their portraits. They just relaxed into each other and enjoyed the moment, whether they were standing near the side of the boat looking at each other or taking in the views, or snuggled up together as they sat on the front of the boat.
Grace and Tyler’s Florida sailboat engagement session has such an intimate feel, and perfectly captured their love for the water, as well as the slower pace and easygoing nature that defines their relationship.

Engagement Session at Pass-a-Grille Beach
After our morning on the water, we headed to Pass-a-Grille Beach. Not only is it where they spend countless weekends together, but it’s also where Tyler proposed. Capturing engagement photos at Pass-a-Grille Beach added another layer of meaning to the gallery, allowing them to revisit some of their favorite memories together.
The soft white sand and gorgeous, blue ocean created the perfect setting for this Tampa beach engagement session. They strolled along the shoreline holding hands, laughing, and simply enjoying each other, resulting in photos that naturally reflected them.

Ending the Morning at The Wharf
Grace and Tyler told me about their favorite restaurant and hangout spot, The Wharf. As regulars, they visit often and have built friendships with many of the people there. It seemed like the perfect place to end their St. Pete Beach Engagement Session.
The casual atmosphere matched their personalities. I love the candid photos of them enjoying a laugh and a drink together while wearing their wharf hats. These photographs capture the everyday moments that make up their life together.

Capturing Genuine Moments
One of the things Grace and Tyler told me before their session was that they weren’t sure about the camera and posed portraits, noting that they prefer a more natural and candid approach. Knowing this about them, I focused on creating movement, conversation, and moments that allowed them to simply be together and flow naturally into moments, which created the most genuine photos that feel authentic to them.

Romantic Florida Beach Engagement Session
Grace and Tyler’s engagement session was a beautiful reminder that the most meaningful photographs come from experiences and locations that are unique to you. Their sunrise sailboat engagement session was a dream, and I loved all the other meaningful moments that followed. Each location told a little piece of their story, resulting in an engagement gallery full of happy memories of both this moment and all the other memories they hold at each of these spots.
