Some love stories become even more beautiful with time, and Kayla and Derrick’s anniversary session at The Ringling Museum of Art was the perfect reflection of that kind of enduring love. After ten years of marriage, they chose to celebrate this season of their relationship with an intentional anniversary session that honored not only where they began, but who they’ve become together over the last decade. The Ringling Museum of Art Engagement Session was elegant, romantic, and full of meaning. 

Romantic 10 Year Anniversary Session

Kayla and Derrick married in New Mexico in November 2015 at one of the wonders of the world, and now, ten years later, they wanted to document this chapter as a reminder that love continues to deepen long after the wedding day. The couple has been together since November 14, 2012, and from the very beginning, they approached their relationship with incredible intentionality. One of the sweetest details they shared is that they celebrate every single month together on or around the 14th. What began as a simple dating tradition eventually became something more. After a year had passed they said it didn’t feel right to stop counting, so they didn’t. They’ve continued carving out a special moment together every month, and haven’t missed one in over 13 years! This special anniversary photoshoot just so happened to take place on the 14th and marked 160 months together. 

I absolutely love this tradition and the effort, consistency, intention they put into their relationship. They often go above and beyond to surprise each other and make sure the other person feels seen. In honor of that, they wanted to incorporate a first look reveal in The Ringling Museum of Art Engagement Session. They wanted to present their best to each other and capture those candid, heartfelt reactions. It was romantic, genuine, and such a beautiful reflection of how much they continue to prioritize one another.

When asked to describe their relationship in three words, they answered intentional, caring, and sentimental, which is exactly what I would use to describe their relationship, as their anniversary session was a perfect reflection of that.

One of the most meaningful things Kayla and Derrick shared was how they hope to remember this season of their life together decades from now. They described this chapter as a time of growth emotionally, physically, and relationally.

They wanted these portraits to serve as a reminder that the wedding day is not “as good as it gets,” but rather that love can continue evolving into something even deeper and more meaningful over time. That sentiment could be felt throughout the entire session. They shared such an ease between them. There were sweet tender moments filled with laughter, connection, and playful energy. It brought me so much joy to capture this milestone moment in their relationship.
