It features a luxury experience among iconic architecture and breathtaking lake views, making it an ideal backdrop for a lavish destination wedding or intimate elopement. The historic and romantic mansion dates back to the eighteenth century. Over the centuries, it passed through several owners. Eventually, it came into the hands of explorer, Count Guido Monzino, who restored the property and later donated it to FAI, Italy’s National Trust. Scholars, writers, and travelers have been coming to this location for years drawing inspiration from the landscape. Today, visitors from around the world continue to visit and admire the estate and its gardens, making it an iconic landmark on Lake Como.

The meticulously maintained gardens and grounds feature trees pruned into unusual shapes, romantic views, and paths lined with statues and abundant blooms. Its stunning landscape and location on the water is one of the reasons Villa del Balbianello has been the location for several filming productions, including Star Wars and 007 Casino Royale.

Allowing for approximately 60–80 guests seated, this location is ideal for small ceremonies or intimate elopements.

Lakeside Steps

Loggia Segrè

Another beautiful option, Loggia Segrè offers incredible views and serves as a wonderful location for cocktail hours and smaller receptions of up to 60 guests.

One of the most common questions couples ask is about the Villa del Balbianello Italy wedding cost. Although prices vary greatly depending on wedding size, venue choice, number of hours, and even the day of the week, according to Italian Lakes Weddings, the average size wedding costs €16,000–€28,000+ for venue rental alone. Items like catering, florals, photography, and accommodations aren’t included in the cost. When it comes to planning a destination wedding in Lake Como, Italy, I highly recommend hiring an experienced Italian wedding planner.

Wedding Considerations  

Like many spots around the lake, the Villa del Balbianello is only accessible by private boat or on foot. While arriving by boat taxi is a fun part of the experience, it is still something to keep in mind when planning a Villa del Balbianello wedding. Another important consideration is that the villa is only open from March to January. However, the weather around Lake Como is usually best between April and September. The other months are still beautiful, but you are more likely to see cooler temperatures and rainy weather, which isn’t ideal for a wedding – especially one where you need to travel by boat! 

In addition, Villa del Balbianello itself does not offer overnight accommodations. Therefore, you and your guests will need to find lodging somewhere else. There are many other beautiful and luxurious locations in Lenno as well as nearby towns like Bellagio, Tremezzo and Menaggio.
