The Poynter Institute Wedding

I recently had the joy of photographing Cayli and Michael for their unforgettable big day. The Poynter Institute wedding in downtown St. Petersburg was gorgeous, featuring beautiful wedding photos by the reflection pool, stunning architecture, and of course, heartfelt and joyful moments. 

Cayli and Michael’s Love Story

Cayli and Michael first met while attending a small university in Sarasota during undergrad. With fewer than 1,000 students, their paths often crossed in the theater department, where they directed and performed together. Their friendship eventually blossomed into something deeper, and after graduation, they realized they’d both been carrying crushes on each other for a while.

Michael proposed in December 2023, around Cayli’s birthday, surrounded by their closest family and friends. It was an intimate and heartfelt beginning to their next chapter together.

The Poynter Institute Wedding Venue

The Poynter Institute is one of the most sophisticated and unique wedding venues in the Tampa Bay area. Located in downtown St. Pete, which is an area the Bride loves, the venue is also near her family that lives in the Tampa area.

Courtyard Ceremony and Cocktail Hour

This luxurious venue blends modern sophistication with historic artistry. The beautiful yard and inside event space are customizable and allow for both indoor and outdoor weddings. Cayli and Michael chose to have their wedding ceremony outdoors in the courtyard under the palm trees, as Cayli loved all the greenery. A close friend officiated the ceremony and the couple exchanged heartfelt, personal vows, creating an intimate, emotional atmosphere.

Aside from the beautiful setting and ample greenery, one of the reasons they chose the courtyard was the architectural backdrop. Michael’s family includes a few architects, so they have a deep appreciation for architecture. The unique architecture of the venue instantly attracted Cayli and Michael.   

The stunning bride, Cayli, wore her mother’s wedding gown, redesigned to reflect her own style. Cayli looked absolutely stunning. We even recreated a treasured photo of her mom from her wedding day. After the two were officially husband and wife, everyone remained in the courtyard area for cocktail hour. Guests mingled among the lush landscaping and warm evening light, before heading indoors for the reception, which carried a fun, energetic and joyful energy with a live band and singer. 

Their wedding day at The Poynter Institute was filled with thoughtful details, timeless style, and meaningful moments. The couple leaned into the venue’s natural elegance and used a soft, romantic color palette of white and soft pinks accented by greenery. All the natural light that poured in from the windows and ceiling added to the light and airy atmosphere of the reception.
